About

What is the BLUEPRINT Teen Readers Advisory Council all about?

The overall objective of BLUEPRINT, the Santa Margarita Catholic High School (SMCHS) Teen Readers Advisory Council, is to promote teen literacy and foster a love of reading.

The BLUEPRINT Teen Readers Advisory Council was chosen to be 1 of only 20 groups in the nation, and the only group in California, to take part in the YALSA Teens’ Top Ten.

The YALSA Teens’ Top Ten is a “teen choice” list of favorite books of the year nominated by members of only 20 selected teen book groups in the nation. Nominations are posted during National Library Week and teens from across the country vote on which titles make it on the Teens’ Top Ten list.

Since different publishers want their books to be on this coveted list, major publishers will be sending BLUEPRINT a total of approximately 300-500 books that have not yet been published or not yet made available for sale to the general public over the course of the year. The reason for why book publishers send these select 20 teen groups, like BLUEPRINT, so many yet to be released books is because they value the opinions of teens.

Who manages BLUEPRINT?

BLUEPRINT is sponsored by the SMCHS Library, and is monitored by Ms. Maricar Laudato (Director of Library Services).

How can I be a part of BLUEPRINT?

If you love to read, and want the chance to read books before they go on sale to the general public, you can join BLUEPRINT. However, all members of BLUEPRINT must agree to complete a short online book review form for each unpublished book that they read.

Please see Ms. Laudato in the library or email her at laudatom@smhs.org for more details on how you can join the BLUEPRINT team.
